Preamble
Speculative Fiction Across Media (SFAM) is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and harassment-free conference experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. We value the participation of every member of the speculative fiction community and want all attendees to have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. Accordingly, all participants are expected to show respect and courtesy to other participants throughout the conference and at all conference-related events.
Expected Behavior
- Be respectful and considerate: Treat all attendees, speakers, organizers, and staff with respect and courtesy.
- Communicate constructively: Use respectful and inclusive language in all interactions.
- Be mindful of your surroundings: Be aware of how your actions may affect others.
- Listen actively: Give others the opportunity to speak and be heard.
- Collaborate and learn: Engage in discussions and activities with a spirit of open-mindedness and a willingness to learn from others.
- Respect boundaries: Be mindful of personal space and respect others’ boundaries.
Unacceptable Behavior
- Harassment of any kind: This includes, but is not limited to, offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, or technology choices; sexual images or language in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography; recording without permission; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.
- Discrimination: Any form of discrimination based on the characteristics listed above.
- Intimidation or threats: Any behavior that creates a hostile or intimidating environment.
- Disruptive behavior: Any behavior that disrupts the flow of the conference or interferes with other attendees’ enjoyment.
- Violation of venue rules: Attendees must comply with all rules and regulations of the conference venue.
- Plagiarism or intellectual property infringement: Respect the intellectual property of others.
Enforcement
- Conference organizers and staff are responsible for enforcing this Code of Conduct.
- Participants asked to stop any harassing or unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately.
- Conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expelling the offender from the conference without a refund, or reporting the incident to local authorities.
- If you are being harassed, witness someone else being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact Patrick Sharp, Executive Director, executivedirector@sfamla.org. All reports will be treated confidentially.
